Southern California restaurant owner continues to help feed the homeless after a devastating fire
The Anaheim White House restaurant was originally a home that was built in 1909. It 1981 it became an upscale restaurant located just down the street from Disneyland. In 1987, Bruno Serato became the owner/head chef.
In 2005, Serato and his mother visited the local Boys and Girls club and noticed children were eating potato chips for dinner. This was unacceptable to them and it led to the formation of Caterina's Club, named after his mother. Twelve years later, they now feed close to 1,200 at risk children, five nights a week. Their other programs include helping Orange County's homeless population find housing and also a job training program.
Saturday, Serato's restaurant was massively damaged in a fire. That didn't stop him from making the pasta meals that feed the children. Local neighbors came through to help the man who has been helping needy others for more than ten years.
In the NBC Nightly New clip below, you can hear about the story of the fire and how Serato is still helping and getting help. In the links above you can donate to the GoFundMe fund to rebuild the restaurant. They've already received over $100, 000 in donations in just three days. The other links send you to the page where you can make a donation to Caterina's Club.
