Stay out of tanning beds
Today is the final day of Melanoma Awareness Month. This is the most important thing I can tell you about how to stay healthy.
STAY OUT OF TANNING BEDS!!
Here are some statistics from the American Academy of Dermatology: . One trip to a tanning bed before age 35 increases your chances of getting Melanoma by 59%. Each additional trip increases those odds. . One indoor tanning session can increase users’ risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma by 67 percent and basal cell carcinoma by 29 percent. . Melanoma is the second most common cancer in females age 15-29.
Scary stuff...and if you're using a tanning bed as a Vitamin D supplement there are safer ways to do that. Change your diet or take a vitamin pill. Those won't kill you.
The other day I walked past a tanning shop. I took a photo of this poster that was in the window. It's from the new Baywatch movie and you can see that their bodies are super-tanned except for their eyes. Did you know that even getting tan and not sunburned is dangerous. It changes your molecular makeup which makes you more susceptible to Melanoma and other skin cancers.
They don't know it but the healthiest part of their bodies is the raccoon look around their eyes.
This piece talks about how Melanoma makes your neurotic.
