Ten grievances for 2020 that I'm airing for Festivus
2020 has been a horrible year. Whatever you could imagine going wrong, did go wrong. I know a lot of people have had it worse than me, much worse, but, today is Festivus. It's a day where we get to air our grievances. As Frank Costanza said, "I got a lotta problems with you people, and now you're going to hear about it!" And in not any particular order, Here goes:
320,000 Americans have died of Covid-19. Most of it could have been prevented if our leaders...errrr...leader acted sooner and more responsibly. His actions, or lack of, led other local politicians to follow his lead. The combination has us where we are today. Maybe next time they listen to the scientists who really do know better.
Russia! They put bounties on our soldiers in Afghanistan and then hack into our systems without any repercussions. Hmmm...maybe I really don't have a grievance with them, but more with the guy who let them do it? Ya think?!
Why are people still not wearing masks? When I take a walk in the city, half the people I run into aren't wearing a mask. It especially galls me when I see parents with young children and they're all maskless. WTF are these folks thinking?
Have you noticed that most professional sports teams are claiming they're broke and will be cutting expenses? I know they lost money due to Covid-19 keeping their stadiums empty, but these are billionaires who have been basically printing money for decades. How can the average person feel sorry for them in 2020?
How come half the commercials on television are for prescription drugs? There are so many and they're played so often that I can quote the lines from many of them. Today at Walgreens, I saw a poster for the drug Descovy. It took five seconds before I remembered what it's for and how I knew that. I'm not sure what I had for lunch today, but this I knew?
Talking about drugs, why are people, mostly politicians, jumping to the front of the line to get the Covid-19 vaccine? I know they're supposedly using the visuals to show the public that the vaccine is safe, but most of the Republicans getting the shots downplayed the virus since the beginning. They also were seen acting irresponsibly. No masks and no social distancing. Plus, what's next...people paying to get to the vaccine early or sports teams getting shots before their seasons start?
Is it me or is SNL not very funny this year? I'm not one of those SNL hasn't been good decades guys. I actually still like the show and hope it continues for years to come. But, I just have not been laughing this year. Even the Weekend Update segment, which is usually my favorite, seems lame. Maybe it's just 2020? They'll be back in late January 2021. I'm hoping for better...much better.
Talking about television, Dish Network and Nexstar, which owns WGN in Chicago, are fighting over money again. Nexstar has pulled their channels off of Dish. This is the third time in the almost six years that I've had Dish that we've lost these channels. Both sides blame each other. It's ridiculous that during a pandemic where most people are suffering, either health-wise or financially, these moneyed giants can't come to an agreement. Hey, dudes...I miss the morning WGN News. Get your shit together, NOW!!
Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep glasses from fogging up while wearing a mask?
Finally, back to Trump...this bullshit election fraud is way past getting old. I'm pretty sure even you don't believe the crap that comes out of your mouth. We all know the only reason it continues is so you can raise money which you pretend goes to the legal fight but actually goes into the pockets of you and your grifter family. Yes, there are only twenty-nine days left in your failed presidency, but twenty-nine days are too many. Someone needs to do something to shut this down....and immediately.
Phew....I have more grievances, but I'll save them for 2021. Have a Happy Festivus. Get out your poles and bring on the meatloaf.
