The circle of life keeps spinning faster
From the day we arrive on the planet And blinking, step into the sun There's more to be seen than can ever be seen More to do than can ever be done
Last week one of my nieces celebrated a birthday. I went to her Facebook feed to send her a greeting. While there I decided to stalk her Facebook photos. I wanted to take a peek into the past.
My niece and her brother are in the same age group as my two daughters. There's a year separating each one...27, 28, 29 and..well you get the point. The four of them spent a lot of time together when they were children. Inseparable to the point that the adults made jokes about how when they got together, they wouldn't let anyone else enter their little club. So, I figured there would be a lot of pictures of them together. Oh yeah...were there ever!
A picture with their grandmother, two of them blowing a party horn at their aunt, birthday parties and weddings, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and just hanging out with each other. Old times...good times. I miss those kids. I miss those days. It's that damn circle of life!
On the same day as her birthday, I received a postcard in the mail. It was a change of the date notice from the same niece. She's getting married in October, but the celebration of her wedding is being moved from the fall to the spring because of the pandemic. It was a reminder that all four of them are having huge life-changing moments in the upcoming months. There are two weddings, a new baby and a birthday that starts a new decade of life.
Man, that circle of life is really spinning fast this year!
It seems like it was only yesterday when the first of the foursome was born. We've gone from that to impending grandfather-hood in the snap of a finger? How is that possible? What did Ferris Bueller say about that?
"Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
True, but even if you're watching, it still moves pretty fast. You need to savor what you see and what you have when it's there because life moves on whether you're ready or not. That damn circle of life sure spins fast....sometimes too fast. I wish it would slow down just a little bit.
In the circle of life It's the wheel of fortune It's the leap of faith It's the band of hope 'Til we find our place On the path unwinding In the circle, the circle of life
