The ‘counting is a skill’ edition of The October Month in Review
Another month has come and gone. As usual, there is plenty of crap going on in the world to comment on and make fun of. Let's get started:
The 2022 mid-term election is seven days away…finally. Have you been inundated with political ads? Of course, you have. I did a check during one commercial break and counted ten ads for candidates running for some elected office. Man, I'll be happy when this election is over and we can go back to seeing drug commercials for every ailment all of us hypochondriacs think we have.
Elon Musk took over Twitter. He immediately fired many of the top executives in the company. Hmmm…what could go wrong? By the weekend, he retweeted a theory that the attack on Paul Pelosi was caused by a lover’s event that turned bad. We’re only a long weekend into his ownership and that answers the “what could go wrong” question.
Talking about Paul Pelosi, Senator Rand Paul condemned the violence but also made the need to make it about him. He wondered why people laughed at him after he was attacked by his neighbor? Well, Rand, first off, it was because of a personal dispute between you and him where you acted like a dick. Second, every time you open your mouth in your political life, you come off as being a dick. So when you add this together, here’s the answer to your question, quit behaving like a dick all the time and maybe people will be a bit more sympathetic to you when something goes wrong. Rand, I hope that helps. You're welcome.
We now come to the biggest issue our country faces: our leaders have problems counting. You would think this was a skill they learned in pre-school. Even if they lagged a bit behind, it would have been mastered by kindergarten, but I guess it’s tough for some adults to get this right.
It started with the President of the United States, Joe Biden visiting a Volvo plant. He was sucking up to the folks making what has been touted as the safest cars in the world by saying, “Two words, made in America.” Let’s check on this together, count with me: Made-1, In-2, America-THREE!
The next Lauren Boebert took this thing to a new level. She tweeted “Two words: Let’s Go, Brandon.” Okay, kids, let's try this counting exercise again: Let’s-1, Go-2, Brandon-THREE!!!
Now, many of her supporters say that Lauren was making a joke at the expense of the current POTUS, but we've seen a lot of her and her gaffes over the past two years. Nothing she says should surprise any if us.
All I can say is maybe our leaders should spend a little less time watching FoxNews, CNN and MSNBC and a little more time checking out Sesame Street.
That's it for October. I can't wait to give thanks for what November will bring. See you at the end of next month.
