The five best Beatles songs from 1964
It was quite a weekend for fans of The Beatles. Friday was the sixtieth anniversary of their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Yesterday was the same anniversary of their first U.S. concert in Washington D.C.
The celebration of these dates was heard on many radio stations. The Beatles Channel played songs from both events. You could hear Beatles songs from all eras of their career on classic rock stations.
1964 was a huge year in many ways for the Fab Four. Besides these events, they released six albums in this country. More than one-third of their recorded work was released during this year. There are sixty-nine songs in those albums. That’s a lot of music! Nothing close to this has been done since then.
There's a lot of great music in those albums, including some classics that will always be remembered. Here, in my opinion is the best of the best: the top five songs from The Beatles, in 1964.
Number 5: “All My Loving”—You don’t open your first U.S. television without doing a great song first.
Number 4: “A Hard Day’s Night”—The title track from one of rock’s greatest movies.
Number 3: “I Saw Her Standing There”—Proof that even B-sides can be great.
Number 2: “I Want To Hold Your Hand”—The song that introduced The Beatles to America.
Number 1: “She Loves You”—I can still hear young girls screaming whenever I hear this song.
That’s my list. What’s yours?
