The Girls Go Wild in the January edition of The Month in Review
Welcome to 2024. With a presidential election coming in November, the news will be crazier than usual. If you don’t believe that, take a look at how these women acted in January. Let's get to the news:
We start with Colorado congressperson Lauren Boebert. She’s had a volatile relationship with her now ex-husband. Lauren took it to a new level by beating him up. When she loses her house seat, which may be as soon as this November, there may be a second career for her in the WWE or MMA.
Donald Trump decided the time was right to denigrate his late nemesis, John McCain. He made fun of his war injuries and blamed him for not overriding Obamacare. Megan McCain wasn't standing for this. It only took her one sentence. “Trump is a piece of shit.” Six simple words!
The Donald has so many court cases, either in progress or upcoming, that his lawyers often find themselves in the news. On a case that looks like it will head to the Supreme Court, Alina Habba said about Justice Brett Kavanaugh he’ll “Step up.” She tried to take the statement back but apparently, Alina really is having trouble with that ‘faking smart’ thing. She should probably settle with being pretty!
Do you remember Emily Litella, from the early days of Saturday Night Live? The character, played by Gilda Radner, would come on the Weekend Update segment to do a commentary about a topic in the news. While doing her rant, it becomes apparent that she misheard the topic. She then sheepishly says, “Never mind.” Alina had her own Litella moment this week. She decided to repeat a false report that the attorney for E. Jean Carroll and the judge, both named Kaplan, had not only worked at the same law firm but that he was her mentor. She said this could be the basis for a new trial or at least, part of the upcoming appeal. When Roberta Kaplan threatened to bring sanctions against her, Alina backed off. “Never mind!” By the way, Donald Trump is now supposedly looking for a new law firm to handle the appeal. Looks like he told his lawyer, “Never mind.”
Melania Trump’s mother, Amalija Knavs, died on January 9th. Melania’s husband helped her grieve by having a town hall on CNN and then taking a road trip to New Hampshire. After the funeral, she gets in the car to leave and her husband tries to join her. She stares him down with a look that says, ‘Don’t even think about it.’
At a House committee meeting where they discussed whether to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress, guess who showed up to watch? Yep, Hunter himself. This pissed off Congressperson Nancy Mace so much that she told him he has no balls and should be arrested immediately. Nancy has issues with the rules of law. I'm surprised the word treason didn't come out of her mouth. All this nonsense led Andy Biggs to tell everyone to calm down and not act like a bunch of nimrods. If Andy Biggs is calling you a nimrod, you know you're out of control.
The Magaites are going overly nuts about Taylor Swift. We’ve heard everything from how she is ruining football to her working for the Pentagon. Karoline Leavitt is the Trump 2024 National Press Secretary. Here’s her take on Taylor, “She should stick to writing songs. And by the way, this woman has made a career off of writing songs about picking the wrong guy. We should not trust her to pick the wrong guy in this presidential election. That’s very clever, however when it gets on the X feed you know you’ll get responses like this one, “You question Taylor Swift’s judgement in men well I would say that your judgement is not very good by working for a known sexual abuser, liar, convicted felon. I would say clean your front porch first before you try to clean someone else’s.” By the way, Karoline Leavitt has admitted that she was a Swiftie before the term was cool.
New York Congressperson Elise Stefanik is acting like she wants to be the nominee for Vice President on the Trump ticket. When she first came to Congress, she was considered a moderate Republican. Here’s her statement after January 6, “This is truly a tragic day for America. I fully condemn the dangerous violence and destruction that occurred today at the United States Capitol. Americans have a Constitutional right to protest and freedom of speech, but violence in any form is absolutely unacceptable and anti-American.” Not only has Stefanik wiped this from her website, she is also now concerned about those who have been convicted and imprisoned because of their actions during the attack on the Capitol. “I have concerns about the treatment of January 6 hostages.” Did she think they were hostages when she was doing this trying to keep safe?
Joy Reid is the host of ‘The Reid Out” on MSNBC. She has had more than her share of controversy with her words in the past, so it’s not surprising she has done it again. She ran a segment titled “Republicans take credit for stuff they voted against.” During the piece, she ran a clip of Joe Biden giving a speech in South Carolina. Joy forgot to turn off the microphone and in the background, you could hear her saying, “Starting another fucking war.” She apologized later in the show. One of many apologies in her career.
That’s it for this month. Maybe when we leap into February, the women in the news can do something positive like E. Jean Carroll telling Rachel Maddow she’ll take her shopping with the big bucks she’s dreaming of getting from Donald Trump. See you with more news in twenty-nine days.
