The irony of having skin cancer during skin cancer awareness month
May has been Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month. So like a good boy with a history of Melanoma and other skin cancers, I thought it would be a good time for my bi-annual visit to my dermatologist. Interesting and ironic timing,
This is how it started:
That little mark on my nose came back with a positive biopsy. That led to photo number two:
Who would have thought that a little bump would make such a huge hole? Certainly not me. That led to photo number three.
Looks pretty good, doesn't it?! The black eye is especially attractive. This was three days after surgery. That led to photo number 4:
That's a lovely shade of yellow under my eye. I was told both eyes would look like that. I guess I got lucky...sheesh. That led to the next photo:
This is two weeks after surgery. Better but still sucks to go out in public looking like this. One more photo coming up:
It's now three weeks after a simple surgery. I'm told it's healing well, but it's probably another two to three weeks before everything is totally healed. It's shocking that it may be a two month recovery for what looked like a small bump on my nose.
The moral to this story: If you do the things to keep your skin safe and healthy, you can avoid procedures like this or even worse ones. Keep out of the sun during peak periods. Never get into a tanning bed. Use sunscreen.
Hope you had a happy and safe Melanoma/Skin Cancer Awareness Month. See you next May.
