The Kennedy Assassination Weekend
Fifty years ago today was the funeral for President John F. Kennedy. It was the end of a horrifying weekend.
Friday, I wrote of my memories from the assassination. Here are some other recollections. It's interesting how memories differ depending on your location.
Diane Zagoren "I was in 6th grade at Sharp Corners. Everyone was told to go to the gym, where we all sat on the floor. There was a TV set up, so we all watched the news from Dallas as it was unfolding."
seraphim104u "I was in the 6th grade as well, but in Montreal, Canada. Nothing at all was said to our class and we walked out the 6th grade door at the end of the day totally oblivious. My best friend (and neighbour) and I stopped at the 4th grade door to wait for her sister to come out. She knew, her teacher had told the class. The 3 of us ran the 2 blocks home and didn't stop to chat a little when we reached my driveway. I ran into the house and could hear the TV was on. No one in our house watched daytime TV and that was the moment I knew it was true."
David Greenberg "I lived in Dallas. My family and I we're waiting on JFK to arrive at the Trade Mart. We we're going to have lunch and hear him speak. The Trade Mart is one exit passed Parkland Hospital where he was taken. We could hear millions of sirens even from the inside of the mart pass us by. There was police and sirens everywhere outside and then it was announced that JFK had been shot."
Here's a chronological look of photos from that weekend. A weekend that changed the world forever.
