The Little Blue Pill
Lets have a little chat about Neurology. It seems like I write about it a lot, but it's more about the peripheral issues than the Neurologist himself.
Wednesday, I actually got to see my Neurologist. I know...I was shocked to see him, too. This visit was just the second time I've seen him.
At first it was a normal exam. Checked my balance, reflexes, strength, behind my eyes, etc. Then he wanted to see my handwriting. Here's where it almost became really interesting.
Instead of just writing something, I pulled out my Blog notebook. The one where I write out almost all of my pieces in longhand. Yes...the same one where I trash my health care on a regular basis. Uh oh...this could be bad.
I quickly found last weekends column on the Beatles. Phew!! He read that the best he could and then we had a little chat about music. He likes classical. I like rock and blues. It was a short chat. I grabbed the notebook and got it back in my backpack. Back to medicine.
So Mr. Doctor-man, what's the prognosis? What did the two MRIs and the two C.T. Scans tell you?
What the tests told him was nothing they didn't already know. What the exam showed him is a couple of my symptoms are getting worse. Also, something we already knew.
"Mr. Moore, I've got something I think we should try. It's not a pure Parkinson's med but will help calm the tremors, maybe help your balance and only has slight side effects."
Slight side effects are when they happen to someone else. And what are these "slight side effects"? Sexual ones...of course but no worries, we can get you something for that, too. OY!
Now it isn't these side effects I give a fuck about, pun intended. It's the growing number of pills I take each day. That number will be between 8-12, depending on the day.
I told the story to a friend the other day. She said " Hmm...the tremor thing could be good, if you know how to use it to your advantage. But now you'll lose that and have nothing else that works."
I need to find classier friends.
That's where we stand for now. We try the new meds for a couple of months, reevaluate and go on from there.
Got too run...I need to watch this Cialis commercial.
