The look of Melanoma
May is Melanoma Awareness Month.
There are a couple of things I hear a lot about Melanoma: a. It's like the other skin Cancers and not dangerous b. People seem to wait a long time to get their moles checked out by a doctor.
Wrong & Wrong!
Not to downplay the others but Melanoma is the most dangerous of the skin Cancers and is killing people in record numbers. I've heard many stories of people waiting a year or two before going to see their doctor. I've know of one guy who put off surgery for two weeks so he could go to a concert. Ummmmm....that would be me.
What happens when you don't take Melanoma seriously..... [placegallery]
If you think the photos are scare tactics, you're right. You should be scared. This is dangerous stuff.
For the umpteenth time I'm going to give you the gospel on how to protect yourself: Use Sunscreen Wear hats and sunglasses Stay out of the sun during peak times Stay out of tanning beds See your dermatologist at the first sign of a suspicious mole Do a monthly body check
It's not perfect but if you do these things, chances are you can avoid ending up like any of the photos.
Melanoma and Skin Cancer touches everyone. Here's a look at some celebrities that have been through their own battles.
