The music of legendary drummer, Hal Blaine
There's a name for the studio musicians who play behind the scene. These mostly unknown group of session players are called sideman. They're the ones who have the musical skills to put onto a record the dreams of writers and producers.
The most famous of these musicians was called "The Wrecking Crew." In the 1960's-early 70's, this Los Angeles based group of musicians played on hundreds of top 40 hits. The main Wrecking Crew drummer was Hal Blaine.
Blaine played on more than 6,000 recordings, was part of thirty-five number one singles and drummed on six consecutive Grammy winning Record of the Year award songs. He also was in the first group of sidemen elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Hal Blaine died yesterday at age 90. Here's a look at some of Blaine's music in a gallery.
