The Power of Thank You
Another Christmas has almost come and gone. Phew!! I thought it was going to be worse than it actually was. There's still 10 hours left so keep your fingers crossed that I don't have to rewrite this tomorrow.
Hopefully your holliday brought you joy and happiness. But for every one of you, there are plenty of us depressed, get this damn thing over, peeps. Bah Humbug.
For all the upbeat, funny happenings I write about, there's a real dark side to most of those events. Having Parkinson's is no walk in the park. In fact the walk in the park is a lot harder because of it.
When this year first started, I was new to the Parkinson' scene. I was trying to figure how to deal with it on a daily basis. I was getting good at it, too. And when I thought I had that figured out a new symptom showed up. And I haven't been too good at dealing with this one.
So at about Thanksgiving, I was ready for 2014. New Years Day supposedly gives everyone a brand new start. I'm soooo ready. But how to get by Christmas first.
Gift giving....OMFG ....how was I going to deal with that?
I was doing the math the other day. I figured I had worked about six days this year. Now you see where I have all this time to Blog almost every day!! But there's a downside to only working six days. Guess what it is? That's right....you run out of money..and fast. So how do you handle gift exchanges in that situation? You bring a couple of valium and when you feel like total shit about it, you pop them. Hey whatever works!!
Then late last night I was talking with a friend. She pulled me to the side and said she wanted to talk in private. She gave me a hug, said Merry Christmas and put something in my hand. It was a $20 bill. Now trust me when I say she needs it worse than me, but she just wanted me to feel better. I got a little choked up and almost gave it back to her but I found a couple of words that made it better. Thank You. It's really simple to do...only two syllables but they are two great ones. Give it a try.
Nine hours, thirty-seven minutes until the end of this holiday.
Merry Christmas.
and to the people who read this on a regular basis......Thank You.
