The rock band Foreigner gives back to help school music programs
This is the rock band Foreigner. They've been around since the mid-1970's. You know them from their many hit songs such as "Feels Like The First Time", "Hot Blooded", and "Double Vision". Foreigner has sold more than 80 million records worldwide.
This is a tough time for schools. Many programs are having to deal with massive cuts to their budgets. Always among the first to get hit are music departments.
Mick Jones was one of Foreigner's founding members and he was looking for a way to help out the struggling music programs. Jones came up with the idea of having a school choir come on stage during their concerts and help them perform the song "I Want To Know What Love Is". In return, the school gets a check for $500 and they can use it for whatever their music department needs. It may not sound like much but it can help purchase an instrument or a concert outfit for a needy student. They've been doing this for years and it keeps many school music groups afloat.
Friday night, they played in my old college town of Norman, Oklahoma, with the Norman High School choir. It was the second time the two groups performed together. You can read more about the story in this link from the University of Oklahoma's school newspaper, The Oklahoma Daily.
Below is a You Tube video of a different school choir performing with Foreigner. You may love them, hate them or are simply indifferent to their music, but Foreigner is helping and has a heart. They definitely are not "Cold As Ice".
