The Ron DeSantis edition of The Month in Review
Yesterday was the final day of March. The month is known for that coming in like a lion, going out like a lamb nonsense. Talking about nonsense, there was plenty of it happening during March.
Lowlights included Lauren Boebert yelling out "13" during President Biden's State of the Union address, Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfort smiling while announcing the cancelation of regular-season games and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot letting the city know that she has the biggest dick in town.
How about the Cleveland Browns trading for Quarterback Deshaun Watson. Then they signed him to a more than two hundred million dollar contract, all of the money guaranteed. I guess winning is more important to the Browns than the twenty-two women who accused Watson of sexually assaulting them.
Then there's Lindsey Graham who said the assassination of Vladimir Putin would be a good thing. Yeah, sure, many of us may think that but we aren't saying that out loud and we aren't U.S. Senators. I guess I can give him a little break on this one since our President basically said the same thing last weekend, in Poland. However, Linds followed up on that with his antagonistic, rude, misogynistic and racist questioning/badgering/interrupting behavior towards Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.
What more needs to be said about Will Smith smacking the shit out of Chris Rock? I think I'll take his warning seriously and will keep his wife's name out of my fucking blog.
And yet none of them can top the craptistic behavior of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. He made a fool of himself not once, not twice, but three times during the month.
He started the month by having a press conference about cybersecurity. Standing behind him were a group of high school students who were wearing masks. DeSantis rudely gave them his opinion about that:
"You do not have to wear those masks. Please take them off. Honestly, it's not doing anything. We've gotta stop with this COVID theater. So if you wanna wear it, fine, but this is ridiculous."
Nothing like the governor bullying a group of teenagers. At least he said "please."
Strike one!
If this was all DeSantis did, it would be bad enough, but there's more. Much more! Florida's legislature was working on the "Don't Say Gay" bill, with Governor Ron's support. He knew he was going to take heat for this so DeSantis went on the offensive with this threat:
"If you are in one of these corporations, if you're a woke CEO, you want to get involved in our legislative business, look, it's a free country. But understand, if you do that, I'm fighting back against you. And I'm going to make sure that people understand your business practices and anything I don't like about what you're doing."
One of those companies that took offense was Disney. They countered by announcing that they were stopping donations to both political parties. DeSantis followed by ripping the largest employer in Florida. He called them a "woke corporation" and criticized their business practices to a room of his supporters.
Wow. Apparently, Ron has never watched a Disney movie? Woke? Really? I guess he isn't old enough to remember back in the 1970s when Disneyland made a huge issue over letting men with long hair/hippies into the amusement park. You can say a lot of things about Disney, but a "woke corporation" is way, way, WAY far down that list.
STRIKE TWO!!
With two strikes, you still get one more swing before being called out. DeSantis stepped back into the batter's box to make his feelings known about Women's College Swimming.
University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas won the 500 yard freestyle event at the national championships, in Atlanta. Thomas became the first transgender swimmer to win a championship.
There was plenty of controversy over whether Thomas should have been permitted to compete. Naturally, Ron DeSantis made his opinion known. Naturally, he went over the top. He issued a proclamation that the second-place finisher, Florida resident Emma Weyant, was the rightful winner.
“By allowing men to compete in women's sports, the NCAA is destroying opportunities for women, making a mockery of its championships, and perpetuating a fraud. In Florida, we reject these lies and recognize Sarasota's Emma Weyant as the best women's swimmer in the 500y freestyle.”
He went on to denounce Thomas for taking away scholarships and awards for women and girls. For some reason, DeSantis is much more pissed about the situation than Emma Weyant. The only thing she has had to say about this is to congratulate Lia Thomas.
STRIKE THREE....YOU'RE OUT!!!
That's all for the month of March. Today is April 1st. April Fool's Day. Based on his behavior over the last thirty-one days, it's obvious who the fool is. Congrats, Ron DeSantis. Good luck on repeating in April.
