The singing-songwriting women of 1970s show off their guitar skills in this edition of International Guitar Month
Guitar playing in the 1970s seemed to be dominated by men. Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Joe Walsh and too many more to name.
But some women, more known for the singing and songwriting skills, could play a bad-ass six-string.
It's hard to believe Bonnie Raitt has been around for more than five decades. She made her first solo album in 1971. Although you may first think of her as an interpreter of songs written by others, with a soulful and bluesy voice, she plays a slide guitar like few others.
She shows off her skills in “Thing Called Love.”
Joni Mitchell is known for her songs that are so personal they will make you uncomfortable listening to them. But, when you read every list of the greatest guitarists, you’ll always find her name. She uses tunings that have made other musicians wonder how she found them. Plus, the wide variety of stringed instruments that she plays makes her music even more interesting
