The Texas shooting wasn't a gun issue but a mental health problem
Eighty-five Americans have been killed in the last two mass shootings. More than five hundred others were wounded.
It breaks down to twenty-six church goers murdered while attending services, in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Twenty others were wounded. It's the largest mass shooting in Texas history. Fifty-nine people were killed and five hundred more were injured while attending a concert in Las Vegas. It's the largest mass shooting event in United States history.
Two events, just thirty-six days apart and the lives of more than six hundred people and their families were changed forever. Stunning.
When asked to comment on recent events, the President of the United States responded:
"It isn't a guns situation. It's a mental health problem at the highest level. Mental health is your problem here. The shooter is a very deranged individual with a lot of problems over a long period of time."
Hmmm, I guess the fifteen magazines of ammunition the Texas shooter had wasn't the problem. But there is some good news about this response. It means that Trump is going to concentrate on helping people with mental health issues. Let's see how he's going about to do this: a. One month after his inauguration, Trump signed a bill which rolled back regulations that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to get a gun. Good idea! We really need more unstable people to have access to firearms. b. In the 2018 Trump budget, money for mental health care and research receives a 20% cut. Plus the funding for Medicaid, which provides physical and mental health care for the poor, is scheduled to receive a $600 billion cut.
Hmmmm again. Sounds like these plans will really help solve the mental health problem, which will stop the shootings, which are not a gun problem.
Welcome to 2017.
