The they said it out loud edition of The November Month in Review
November has come and gone. This month’s news looks at people who for some reason have said things out loud that they would normally never say in public…and there’s a lot of them. Let's get started:
There was an off-year election and the results were not what Republicans liked. They let people know it, too.
Rick Santorum was so distraught that he thinks we should change how we govern, “Pure democracies are not the way to run a country.”
Vivek Ramaswamy let the country know about how he felt about his fellow Republicans, “We’ve become a party of losers.”
After Ohio citizens voted to uphold abortion rights, Megyn Kelly said out loud what everyone knew, “They can't win by saying no abortion and no exceptions. It’s a fucking loser.”
Talking about losers, the Chicago White Sox lost one hundred games last season. Their fans are more than a little angry at the players and management. The team has a new general manager, Chris Getz, who feels the same way, “I don't like our team.” It's good to know the fans and management agree.
At the last Republican debate, Vivek and Nikki Haley got into it more than a bit. It started over a discussion on whether TikTok should be banned. Vivek let the world know that Haley’s daughter is a TikTok user. Then Nikki let the world know what she thinks of him, “You’re just scum.”
The House of Representatives Republican caucus was a mess. They fired Kevin McCarty and tried to elect three candidates before settling on Mike Johnson. That led to late-night talk show host Seth Meyers to comment about them, “I would call House Republicans a clusterfuck, but a cluster implies some sense of unity. They’re more like a scatter-fuck. I’ve seen more organized groups of seagulls fighting over a potato chip.”
Even House member Chip Roy admitted their lack of governing skills was embarrassing, “We went through an entire month of drama about a Speaker, and we just did the same damn thing we’ve been doing. The people I represent are sick and tired of it. One thing. I want my Republican colleagues to give me one thing — one — that I can go campaign on and say we did. Anybody sitting in the complex, if you want to come down to the floor and come explain to me one meaningful, significant thing the Republican majority has done besides, ‘Well, I guess it’s not as bad as the Democrats.’”
Talking about the House and Senate Republicans being embarrassing, they had one afternoon where former Speaker Kevin McCarthy supposedly elbowed one of his fellow caucus members in the kidney, plus Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin tried to start a fight on the Senate floor. Luckily, it was broken up by, of all people, Bernie Sanders. The events of the day led another former House Speaker, Patrick McHenry to comment, “There are dumb days on Capital Hill and there are dumber days on Capital Hill and this is one of the dumbest I’ve seen in a long time.” That seems like an understatement.
Sometimes words don’t have to be spoken. Robert Crimo Jr. is the father of the accused shooter/murderer of Robert Crimo III. On July 4, 2022, the younger Crimo is accused of shooting and killing seven parade attendees in Highland Park, Illinois. Crimo Jr. was charged with reckless conduct because he signed the paperwork that allowed his son to acquire the weapon. A plea agreement was reached and Crimo Jr. was sentenced to sixty days in jail. He turned himself into authorities to begin his sentence wearing a t-shirt that said, "I'm a political pawn." The back said, "Laws, facts, reality." Hey Bobby, the facts and the reality is you’re lucky it’s only two months. Sometimes you have to know when to shut up. This was one of those times.
You know Donald Trump had to pipe in with something. Check this out, “If I see someone who is beating me badly I say go indict them. They’d be out of business. They’d be out of the election.” Big surprise, right? Tell us something we didn’t know you were planning! But, he wasn’t done because he never is done. “We pledge to you that we will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country that lie and steal and cheat on elections. “They’ll do anything, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America and to destroy the American Dream. The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous and grave than the threat from within. Our threat is from within.” Hey Don, most of us who watched your presidency and the post-presidency agree. The threat is from within…AND IT’S YOU!!
Former Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill has had more than enough of the former President. On one of her MSNBC appearances, she had this to say about him, “A lot of people have tried to draw similarities between Mussolini and Hitler and the use of the terminology like ‘vermin’ and the drive that those men had towards autocracy and dictatorship. The difference, though, I think makes Donald Trump even more dangerous, and that is he has no philosophy he believes in. All he wants … is to look in the mirror and see a guy who’s president. All he cares about is selfish self-promotion. That’s the only philosophy he has. Which makes him even more dangerous.”
We’ll let Elon Musk have the final word. In an appearance, he was asked about companies that have and will stop advertising on X. He had three succinct words, “Go Fuck Yourself.” He even said it twice for emphasis!
Actually, that’s pretty good advice for most of the people who made it into this month’s column. That’s all the news for November. For those of you who didn’t like this recap, remember Elon’s words. See you at the end of December!
