Tina Turner dies at age 83: She was simply the best
From a life of violence at the hands of her ex-husband to playing in front of one hundred eighty thousand fans in Rio, everything in Tina Turner’s life was large.
This was a woman whose career was at its lowest point after the breakup of the Ike and Tina band to only a few years later becoming one of the biggest music stars of the 1980s. It was a musical comeback like we had never seen before or since.
Her life story inspired the movie “What's Live Got To Do With It” and the play “The Tina Turner Musical.”
Today is a good time to focus on the great accomplishments of her life. Here are some of them:
She is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time having sold more than 100 million records worldwide. She’s been awarded twelve Grammy awards, including three Grammy Hall of Fame Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Turner was the first black artist and the first woman to be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. She twice has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2005, Tina Turner was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors. In 2022, Mattel released a Barbie doll in her likeness.
In the last ten years, Turner has suffered through many health issues. She had a stroke in 2013, had intestinal cancer three years later and her high blood pressure led to major kidney damage. Still, she persevered to live another decade.
Tina Tuner leaves a legacy like few others. She was simply the best!
