To live and die in L.A.
Dateline: Los Angeles, Ca.
I'm in SoCal for a wedding and there have been more than a few interesting events. Let’s take a peek:
Friday 8/26: I'm on an 8:30 flight out of O’Hare. That's doesn't sound too bad until you realize you need to wake up at 5am to get ready. The plane takes off and it looks like every passenger immediate went to sleep, including me. I woke up an hour later and looked over at the young couple sharing my row. They were still asleep with her head in his lap. Nothing unusual about that except his pants were undone. Hmmm…you don't think they really did that in the seats? I don't know but it certainly gives new meaning to flying the friendly skies.
Friday 8/26: I need to take an Uber to the hotel. LAX has this thing where they shuttle you to a dedicated Uber/Lyft area away from the terminal. I wait until we arrive there before signing into the Uber app. I plug in the starting and end locations and it looks like we're good to go. A minute later the driver calls, “You aren't going to Mexico, right?” Hmmm, I still can't figure out how he thought a hotel near the Getty Museum translates into a trip to Tijuana.
Friday 8/26: We get on the 405. It's noon and traffic is bumper to bumper. What are all these people doing on the highway? Don't any of them have jobs? It’s another reminder of why I moved away from the L.A. area. I try to kill a few minutes by checking my Facebook feed. I guess they know I'm in California because the first thing I see is an ad for Norm’s restaurant. Mac & Cheese and milkshakes. The mac goes for $3.99. I don't trust anyone place that gives you a main course for less than four bucks. I'm fairly sure I won't be going to Norm’s anytime this weekend.
Friday 8/26: I get to the hotel and check in. There are seventeen floors and two elevators. Oh yeah, one doesn't work and won't for the entire weekend. It takes fifteen minutes to get to the sixth floor. Oh guess what, my key card doesn't work. Back down to the lobby. Twenty minutes later, I finally get into the room.
Wow! That's just one day into a four day vaca. I need a nap just remembering and writing that. More to come…watch this space.🤦
