Tony Bennett turns 90 years old: A look at his life and career
Happy 90th birthday to Tony Bennett.
Making it to 90 is remarkable, especially if you've spent you're entire life in the music business.
He grew up influenced by Al Jolson and Eddie Cantor and was a big fan of Jazz legend Louis Armstrong. Bennett started singing for money at age 13 as a singing waiter but really started professionally in the late 1940's after serving in the Army during World War 2.
Bennett had a lot of hits during the early part of his career but hit a lull in the mid-60's because of a change in the sound in music business. In the 1980's he overcame a drug habit, problems with the IRS and a couple of divorces to reinvent himself and a new generation of fans discovered Bennett and his music.
Today he turns 90 and is still going strong. Last year, he toured with Lady Gaga and he's touring again this summer. If you're in the Chicago area, you can see him at Ravinia on August 13th. It will be his 19th appearance at that venue.
Here's a look at the career of Tony Bennett in photos and music.
