Top Ten Everyday Things That Are Harder With Parkinson's
This is from the home office in beautiful, downtown (fill in the town of your choice). We'll start with the simple and see where this leads...
10. WALKING UP & DOWN STAIRS- I've mentioned my issues with balance before. I usually take elevators, if possible. Today, I saw a woman fall on the stairs walking up to a train. While people giggled, I helped her up and told it happens to me all the time. If she only knew.
9. WALKING DOWN THE STREET- You're taking a simple walk and a block later you notice that you're on the other side of the sidewalk. FREAKY!!!!
8. WRITING- Imagine your hand shaking as you're trying to write the simplest thing (like this list). You can include typing in this category, too.
7. COFFEE- If you hands are shaking all the time, you really don't need the caffeine, do you? Plus spilling hot coffee on yourself hurts!!
6. FLIPPING SOMEONE OFF- It really loses it's meaning if your finger is shaking. Cab drivers start to pull over for you thinking you need a ride. It's embarrassing.
5. SHAVING- DANGER WILL ROBINSON!! I had a shaving accident last week. I cut a fingernail on my non-shaving hand. I'm still trying to figure that one out.
4. CONTACT LENS- Lots of people have phobias about putting things in their eyes. Now add in shaking hands. Sometimes it's hard to just balance the lens on your fingertip. Taking them out is also a problem.
3. GOLF- When you get older, you get what is called the yips. Basically it's a case of the nerves that affects your putting stroke. Now add in shaking hands to the equation. Fun!! This also applies to miniature golf.
2. PLAYING A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT- I'm not so sure about this one. You may be able to find notes that you didn't know existed. I need to do some more research on this one. Does anyone have Eric Clapton's email address?
1. SEX- Picture you're trying to reach a particular spot. One that leads to lots of ooohs & aaahhs. But you can't do it because you can't control your hand and keep it steady. Disappointment! Tears! Accusations! And that's when you're by yourself. I need to do some more research on this one, too. Does anyone have Catherine Zeta-Jones email address?
