We're Gonna Go Walking In The Park Everyday
Today is Robert Plant's 65th birthday. I'm happy for him but this piece has nothing to do with Plant, Led Zeppelin or music.
Two months from today will be the Chicago Parkinson's Moving Day 3k. To get ready, I've been taking walks the last two Sunday's. Both have been around 1.5 miles. I'm halfway there with plenty of time left.
I thought I might try another charity walk to get ready for the Parkinson's walk, so I hit up Google to see what was going on. Apparently it's the charity walk season. Makes sense since the temperatures start cooling off but it's still nice enough to be outside.
Here's a list of what's happening in the charity walking business:
Sept 8- Pancreatic Cancer half marathon
Sept 8- Team Teal Race to break the silence on Ovarian Cancer
Sept 21- Les Turner ALS Walk
Sept 27- Metro Chicago Heart Walk
Sept 28- Aids Walk & Run
Sept 29- Walk to End Alzheimers
Oct 5- Lung Cancer Walk
Oct 6- Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes
Oct 19/20- Leukemia & Lymphoma Light The Night Walk ( 5 different locations)
Oct 20- Parkinson's Disease Moving Day 3k
Phew- That's a lot of walking.
I'm sad to say I know someone in all of those categories. I'm happy to say I know survivors in many of those categories.
So get your walking shoes ready cuz we will be walking in the everyday.
