What do you think of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020?
This morning the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced it's latest class of inductees. Here's the list: Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G. and T. Rex.
Surprisingly, I'm okay with this list. It has a nice variety of different eras and genres of music. We have everything from classic rock, to electronic music/new wave to rap. There's a little something for everyone.
Yes, you'll have people complaining that some of these forms of music aren't really rock and roll, but I think the diversity and inclusion of these artists is more important. Plus, it'll be interesting to see what Trent Reznor has to say, if he does show up.
The surprises aren't who made the final cut, but who didn't. The Dave Mathews Band and Pat Benatar were the two leaders of the fan voting. In fact, only one of the top five fan favorites, The Doobie Brothers, were inducted. This will be the first time that the top fan vote-getter will not be inducted into the Hall. For Mathews and the others, it's wait until next year.
The induction ceremony takes place on May 2, in Cleveland. For the first time, it will be broadcast live on HBO. Fans will be able to do what The Doobies asked many years ago....Listen to the Music.
