What will it take to get Donald Trump arrested?
January 2, 2021. Donald Trump calls Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger:
"So what are we going to do here folks? I only need 11,000 votes. Fellas, I need 11,000 votes. Give me a break."
Have there been any repercussions for this call? Not yet!
January 6, 2021. Donald Trump gives a speech at the Stop the Steal rally:
"We fight like Hell. And if you don't fight like Hell, you're not going to have a country anymore."
His speech sent his supporters to the Capitol building. It led to a violent insurrection against the United States. Has Trump faced any repercussions for this? Not yet!
January 4, 2022. Trump advisor Peter Navarro appears on MSNBC's Ari Melber program and details "The Green Bay Sweep.":
"The plan was simply this: We had over 100 congressmen and senators on Capitol Hill to implement the sweep. We were going to challenge the results of the election in the six battleground states."
What Navarro detailed was a coup to overthrow the results of the election. Has Navarro, Trump or anyone else involved in this plan faced any repercussions? Not yet!
February 2022. Fifteen boxes of White House records that should have been given to the National Archives show up at Trump's Mar-a-Lago home. Included in the boxes are records that have been considered as classified. Other reports surfaced that Trump regularly ripped up presidential papers and his aides had to tape them back together. It's also rumored that he flushed records down the White House toilets. Another story has come out that the call logs from January 6, 2021, are among the missing documents.
It may be too early to make a judgment on this, but many experts say that prosecution is unlikely. However, Mitt Romney has his own thoughts on the situation:
"Clearly if classified documents were taken that would be of grave concern and it's appropriate to follow the law. Frankly, President Trump's misbehavior consists of a long list and you just add that to the total"
I could go on and on and on. As Romney basically said, with Trump, there's always something. You would think that with so many episodes of lawlessness at least one of them would have warranted an arrest, with prosecution, conviction and prison time. But, Trump is a Teflon man. Nothing sticks to him.
The bigger question goes to the Justice Department. Hey guys, what does Donald Trump have to do to get you folks involved? What's it going to take? I'm sure we'll find out eventually because we all know there's going to be more to come. With Donald Trump, there always is.
