When in Memphis, you have to go to the National Civil Rights Museum
When you think of Memphis, what comes to mind? Elvis and Graceland. Music on Beale Street. Sun and Stax studios. Barbeque!
Yet all pale in comparison to the National Civil Rights Museum.
Built on the same ground as the Lorraine Motel, where Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated in 1968, it tells the story of the civil rights struggle throughout history. The exhibits take you on a chronological trip through history, from slavery to modern day. It lets you know that while we've come a long way in race relations, we still have a long way to go.
A friend said that the museum should be part of every child's education. True, but we can expand that to it should be part of every human's education.
The photos in this gallery tell a story, so comments are not necessary. Here's a look at the National Civil Rights Museum.
