Why are there so many stupid drug commercials?
Oh...Oh...Oh...Ozempic!
Did you sing the above words as you read them? Of course, you did. You know the song and you know the commercial which you see multiple times every day.
The television viewing public is being overwhelmed with pharmaceutical drug commercials. Humira, Xeljanz, Skyrizi, Eliquis and, of course, Oh...Oh..Oh...Ozempic.
It's become so bad that I can tell you about the character's lives in these commercials. In Ozempic's leading role is Emily. She's an artist working on a mural with a fellow artist. Emily lets her friend know that she has lost twelve pounds due to taking Ozempic. The response: "Oh?" She also lets her know that her A1C has dropped because of the drug. Again the response:"Oh!!"
My question is who the hell tells their friends about this kind of personal stuff? We don't even know if Em's pal is diabetic. Most likely not, otherwise they'd be Ozempic buds. And is this what casual conversation has come to in 2021? Hmmm...maybe Emily's friend hears this and thinks she could use to lose twelve pounds. Maybe she can get some of this stuff from Emily? Hmmm....maybe this becomes a pill that leads the friend to get like Jessie did on "Saved By The Bell" when she got hooked on speed? Wow...sounds like a new afterschool special.
By the way, do you know why we keep seeing all these ridiculous commercials? One reason is the only two countries that allow pharmaceutical ads are the United States and New Zealand. Why do you think that is? Could it be because of the $$$$$? DUH!!
If these companies have so much money that they saturate the public airwaves with these inane commercials, you can only imagine how much money they are making in drug sales. And if they are that flush in drug cash that they can afford to pay the band Pilot to use their song, can't they use some of it to come up with better names for their products than Humira, Xeljanz, Skyrizi, Eliquis and sing it with me, kids....Oh...Oh..Oh..Ozempic. It'll be playing in your head all day. You're welcome.
