Why can't Republican politicians say the name Donald Trump
Tuesday was quite a day in Donald Trump's America.
In an event that was supposed to talk about infrastructure, Donald went off topic and decided to answer questions from the press. It went bad...very bad. According to a White House source, "He went rogue."
"I think there's blame on both sides." "Not all those people were Neo-Nazis." "Alt-left was very, very violent." "Fake press"
Our President basically backed off his remarks from Monday and went back to his Saturday comments which were criticized....only this time he doubled downed and blamed the victims.
You knew he was going to take a lot of deserved heat for today. The only question is what would his own party say about their leader?
Paul Ryan: " We must be clear. White supremacy is repulsive. This bigotry is counter to all this country stands for. There can be no moral ambiguity." John Kasich: " There is no moral equivalency to Nazi sympathizers. There can be no room in America, or the Republican party, for racism, anti-semitism, hate or white nationalism. Period!" Senator Todd Young of Indiana: "This is simple: we must condemn and marginalize white supremacy groups, not encourage and embolden them." Orin Hatch: "We should never hesitate to call out hate. Whenever and wherever we see it." Jeff Flake: "We can not accept excuses for white supremacy and acts of domestic terrorism. We must condemn them. Period." Florida Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen: "Blaming both sides for Charlottesville? No! Back to relativism when dealing with the KKK, Nazi sympathizers, white supremacists? Just no!"
And on and on and on again. Every politician had the right sentiments. They all said pretty much the same thing. And they all forgot to mention one thing......DONALD TRUMP! How can you be critical of someone without mentioning the name of the person you're criticizing? If you don't call him out by name, we can and do question your sincerity.
Most critics of the President wonder when he's going to hit the bottom. I'm not sure he's there yet but, when David Duke is congratulating you on your remarks, you're close.
I'm wondering when the Republicans will put the country ahead of their party? I'm wondering when they will call out the President by name?
Sadly, for them and for all of us, today was not that day.
