Why do we need all these made-up days?
Happy National Peach Cobbler Day! Yeah, it's a real thing. Sorry you missed it and didn't get any cobbler? Yeah, me too. Don't worry though, there are plenty more of these things to celebrate.
This week alone we've had National Sibling Day, Eight Track Tape Day, Russian Cosmonaut Day, and Ex-Spouse Day. Sheesh. I mean I'm okay with my siblings. I'm seeing two of them later and here's an apology to my youngest sibling for blowing him off while I was in SoCal last week. See..we're all good! I guess Ex-Spouse Day is okay, too. Half the people reading this will be celebrating that and I don't want to piss off any of you, right.
But c'mon...I've mentioned five that happened this week and that's the beginning. I hate to look at next week...next month...or the rest of 2016.
I blame social media for all this nonsense. Do you think Sib's Day would exist if there weren't places like Facebook or Instagram to show your pictures? Try to imagine getting a photo of my family with a note saying Happy National Sibling's Day, in your snail mail? I'm thinking I'd never hear from most of you again and those who are talking to me might recommend I start going back into therapy.
Another thing about all these bogus days is that it takes away from the real ones. There are twenty "causes" celebrating their month in April. Among those trying to raise awareness are Parkinson's, Autism, Oral Cancer and Multiple Myeloma. Next month and every other month, the same thing. All important causes but even some of these organizations go overboard. Not only is April, PD Awareness Month but April 11th was World Parkinson's Day. On April 18th, we start Parkinson's Awareness Week. Overkill and redundant! But I guess it's a lot better than next month when we celebrate Zombie Awareness Month. Really! It's a thing!!
Sorry about worrying you with all these Days but if you can hang until the 16th you get a break. It's National Stress Awareness Day.
I'm going to leave you with a little music. Monday was International Louie Louie Day. Seriously...you can't make up this stuff. Enjoy the tune...even sing along. Try the dirty lyrics. It'll make you feel better about all these days.
