Why I'm watching Donald Trump's inauguration
Tomorrow is D-day. D for Donald. D for democracy. D for the death of almost all my core beliefs.
We've heard about how people will be boycotting Donald Trump's inauguration ceremonies. More than sixty Democratic lawmakers will not be attending. People at home are planning to turn their televisions to the Disney Channel, Animal Planet, ESPN or anything other the swearing in of the new President.
Not me! I'm watching and I'm watching closely!
I have a couple of reasons for this: a. It's history. It may be bad history but it's history none the less. b. I want to hear what he has to say. You know that thing about keeping your enemies closer? How much closer can you get than having this ego-driven thing that makes my skin crawl give his first speech as King...errrr....President of the United States to a worldwide audience? You know he's going to say something that will be an Oh Fuck moment. It's must see tv! Do you think it'll be longer than 140 characters?
But when Donnie is done making us the laughing stock of the world and you missed it, I promise I won't rub it in. No "I told you so" from me. I'm sure we'll have plenty of chances to be embarrassed over the next four years.
Look, I understand if you don't want to watch. There are a lot of other things you can do. Go to a movie, hit the gym, do some volunteer work, get ready for Saturday's Women's March (I'll be there). If you're set on doing that television boycott thing to keep his ratings down, tune in the Friday "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" marathon. I checked it out for you and Guy Fieri will be doing a best burgers episode during the swearing in hour. I might even go back and forth for that! At least we'll know where to go eat while we're on our way to live in Canada.
Last summer The Donald had a lot of problems with musicians. I wonder how many Cease & Desist requests he'll be getting for Friday.
