Will The Cubs Win The World Series Before I Die
Another baseball season comes to an end this weekend. If you live in Chicago, it ended months ago.
The Cubs are going to finish in last place again. They are 28 games behind the first place St. Louis Cardinals.
Is there hope for the future? The answer depends on if you buy into this rebuilding plan.
So it leads to the question that people have been asking for decades....will the Cubs win the World Series before I die?
To get to this answer, you have to look at the past.
I was born in 1952. The Cubs were a decent team at that point. They hadn't won the World Series in 44 years but teams like the Dodgers and Phillies had yet to win even one. Plus the Cubs won the National League pennant on a regular basis so if you were signing on as a fan at that time, you had a good chance of seeing winning baseball. Who knew?
Let's take a quick look at what's occurred since then. Bad baseball and heartbreak.
Remember these years...1969,1984,2003,2007,2008. If being a Cub fan through that didn't lower your life expectancy, nothing will.
Now let's get back to the original question. If you did the math earlier you know that I'm 61 years old. Still plenty of time to see the ultimate victory.
I figure I'm good for another 20 years. However having Parkinson's lowers that somewhat. Let's say I make it to 75. I really need this Epstein/Hoyer rebuild the farm system deal to work.
I give it five years...2018. If it's good they'll have multiple playoff chances and maybe they'll break through. If it doesn't work, I'll be 66, running out of chances, and the Cubs will be starting over, again!!
Oh man...up the creek without a paddle.
There is some good news. Hockey season starts next week. Phew!!!
Blackhawks open on Tuesday against Washington.
Commit to the Indian!
