Would you have a doctor who is a Donald Trump supporter
A few years ago, I was at my dermatologist's office for a check-up. When she walked into the examination room, she said she had a student with her. She asked if I was okay with her watching the procedure. This is the normal routine for her office so I'm used to it. At least they ask first. I told her, "Sure, the more the merrier." Pretty witty, right?
The student walked in, introduced herself and I snarkily asked her, "Before we start, I hope your degree isn't from Trump University?" Thankfully, everyone laughed and we spent a few minutes dissing The Donald before the hunt for body moles began.
Thursday, it happened again. I was at a hospital supporting a friend who was having a procedure. As a nurse was walking her towards the preparation area, I shouted, "So do you know how your doctor is voting?" The nurse turned towards me and started laughing. Her, I feel good about. The doctor...I have no idea. I imagine the nurse knows. I wonder if my friend does?
In 2020, the nation is as divided as it's ever been. It's an us versus them atmosphere. A lot of our relationships are determined by whether someone identifies as an us or a them. Families have been permanently fractured because of different political beliefs. Romantic relationships have broken up. Decades long friendships have ended. So if you're going to take it that far, is it beyond belief that you would choose a physician that way? Are you really going to trust someone to cut on you that is diametrically opposed to everything you believe in.
I now wonder what my other doctors think about the upcoming election? I have one who may politically lean to the right. Her specialty is colonoscopies. Hmmmm...talk about being on the dark side.
