Howard, lots of insight into a situation I was not paying enough attention to. Thanks for sharing this story. I actually found a way to locate and copy my stuff but I need to get it done pretty quickly because that long arm of Tribune/Alden may reach back into history and wipe it clean! Honestly it's hard to imagine the badness of the bad decisions that went into that site turning into such a mess. Also the censorship vibe--astonishing. Alas. It was good for awhile, a great place to launch as a writer.
All due respect, Howard, you may be giving yourself just a wee bit too much credit, responsibility or blame for the demise of ChicagoNow. There's probably more than a few of us who got caught in what was an inevitability. A lot of it had to do with timing and it's likely that the fait accompli would have occurred on the same timetable had you been on vacation or otherwise occupied last week. Anyway, keep writing brother. I'm still trying to work my way through the Substack manual

Thanks for linking this here. It'll be interesting to see if anything gets done or even if they respond. I'm not holding my breath. Thanks, again.
Nicely done. The Stones may have their Glimmer Twins, but they ain't got nothin' on the Twins of Anarchy!

I really don't think I broke the site but it does make for a better story.
There's a manual for this?
